Black silicon carbide

silicon carbide(SiC) is made of quartz sand, petroleum coke (or coal coke), wood chips (salt needs to be added to the production of green silicon carbide) and other raw materials in a resistance furnace by high temperature. The refined silicon carbide block is crushed, acid and alkali washed, magnetic separation and screening or water separation to make products of various particle sizes.

At present, China’s industrial production of silicon carbide is divided into black silicon carbide and green silicon carbide, both hexagonal crystals, specific gravity of 3.20~3.25, microhardness of 2840~3320kg/mm2.

【Physical and chemical properties】

The molecular formula is SiC, which has a hardness between corundum and diamond, higher mechanical strength than corundum, and can be used as an abrasive and some other industrial materials.
